Robert Glenn Harr

Lt. Col. Robert Glenn Harr (ret.), 89, of Piney Flats, passed away March 14, 2014, at Franklin Woods Medical Center after a brief illness. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, John Ad and Ollie Myrtle Harr, sister, Ada Netherland, brothers, W. Clyde, Elmer, and Emory Harr. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 ½ years, Nancy Correll Harr; daughter, Anita (Harr) Quillen and husband Danny of Marietta, GA; sons, John Harr and wife Tatiana of Fairfax Station, VA; and Steve Harr and wife Robin of Chester, MD; grandchildren, Casey Quillen, Lori Q. Lathem, Lisa Q. Broadhead, Christopher and Corbin Harr, Todd, Mac, Patrick, Sean and Liam Harr; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Glenn was an avid aviator. His favorite place to be was in the air which he enjoyed as a career and hobby. He gave 2 years to the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, then 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves/Tennessee Air National Guard 134th Air Refueling Group in Knoxville, TN, and a career of 28 years, retiring in 1984, with Piedmont Airlines. As a flight instructor, he taught over 500 students to fly. In 2008, the Federal Aviation Administration presented him with the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award for his 50 years of aviation safety without incident. During his retirement, he also enjoyed flying his two homebuilt aircraft which only ended last summer. For many years, he enjoyed being on the water teaching his children and grandchildren to water ski and to enjoy Boone Lake. The family will receive friends at East Lawn Funeral Home, 4997 Memorial Drive, Kingsport, TN, on Friday, March 21, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 4:00 p.m.; Rev. Chuck Griffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cassidy United Methodist Church, 5801 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, TN 37664 or charity of choice.
