Pauline Joyce Staten Johnson peacefully went into the presence of her heavenly Father Monday, June 1, 2015 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, Lynchburg, VA. She loved the Word of God, her husband, children, grandchildren, and most of all, her Lord. Her amazing faith walk in spite of life’s adversities confirmed a strong God confidence always encouraging and uplifting others regardless of her circumstances. Though her struggles and hardships were many she never complained or asked why; always responding with ‘why not me?’ Although she will be missed by many heaven is sweeter today as she was welcomed into eternity by many friends and loved ones. Her inspiration and encouragement will be her legacy to those whose lives she greatly influenced. Physically blind for the past several years her faith has truly become sight. Mrs. Johnson was born November 18, 1919 to John and Lena Smith Staten and lived most of her life in Kingsport, Tenn. with the exception of the past 11 1/2 years where she resided in Lynchburg, VA closer to her daughter and family. She accepted Christ in l952 at the Great Revival at Pleasant View Baptist Church where she became a faithful member for 59+ years and was actively involved in the Joy Sunday school class. She was employed at Tennessee Eastman prior to the birth of her first child and became a stay-at-home mother and homemaker for the remainder of her life. She loved gardening, singing, and cooking. Family who preceded her in death were her parents, John and Lena Staten, brother Wayne C. Staten, sisters, Lorene Thacker & Ruth Richardson, twin infant brothers, James & John, two infant sisters, son, Randy, and her husband of 42 years, Donald G. Johnson. Those who are left to miss her are: myself, her only child, Patsy (Johnson) Sanders, and my husband, Jim of Lynchburg, Va., her granddaughter, Kari and husband, Aaron, Richmond, Va., her grandson, Justin and wife Kelley, Lynchburg, Va. and three great-grandchildren Chloe Grace Sanders, Dallas Bradley Sanders, and Meredith Nichole Cox, one special niece, Sheila, (Steve) Sproles, and a special nephew Terry (Lora) Johnson of Jonesborough, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.The family will receive friends at Pleasant View Baptist Church on Thursday evening, June 4, 2015 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of her Life at 7:00 p.m. officiated by her pastor, Rev.
