Mildred Cox, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 99 on September 26, 2023 at American House Assisted Living. Her departure marks the end of a remarkable journey.
Mildred's skillful hands were always busy, and her home was a testament to her talents. She had a deep passion for sewing, and her handcrafted quilts were cherished by all who received them. Her garden, a vibrant tapestry of colors, was a testament to her love for the outdoors and her green thumb was showcased in her thriving houseplants. Mildred was also a great cook, and loved to bake cookies, cakes and decorating birthday cakes for her family and friends. She was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the library and Sunday School, and always loved the worship services.
Midlred's crochet hooks and colorful yarns brought warmth and comfort to her family. Her crocheted blankets and afghans became cherished heirlooms, each stitch a labor of love.
Born on January 26, 1924, Mildred was the daughter of John and Dovie Smith and grew up in Kingsport, TN. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.Paul Cox; son, Jerry Cox; brother, Everett Smith; sisters, Elsie Jones and Francis Phillips.
Mildred leaves behind a legacy of love in her son, Johnny Cox and daughter-in-law Kathy. In addition, Mildred is survived by 1 grandchild, Krystal McReynolds (husband, Chris McReynolds) and 3 great-grandsons, Zebulon, Cameron and Jett McReynolds, She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Wright as well as several nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.
As we say goodbye to Mildred, we find solace in the knowledge that her memory will forever remain in the gardens she tended, the quilts she stitched, and the love she shared. Her 99 years on this earth were a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and she will be dearly missed.
A graveside service to celebrate Mildred's life will be held on Friday, September 29th at 11:00 am at East Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.
