Mary Lou Grills, age 81 of Maynardville, entered into the arms of Jesus during the morning hours on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Mary Lou was born to the late John Norris and the late Mary Bell Cross Norris on March 4, 1935 in Kingsport, TN. On April 14, 1951, Mary Lou married her cherished friend, James Walter Grills, and together, they celebrated 43 years of marriage; James preceded her in death on April 19, 2006. Mary Lou will always be remembered and cherished by those who loved her. Mary Lou enjoyed reading and cooking; especially beans, cornbread, chocolate gravy and “cat-head” biscuits. She loved taking care of her family; and not only did she fill their appetites with wonderful foods, but more importantly she filled their lives with love. Mary Lou loved gardening and spending time at the lake, and she found solace and comfort in listening to gospel music. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Walter Grills; one daughter, Patricia Russell; one great-grandson, William Bowery; three brothers, Robert Norris, Billy Norris, and John Norris, Jr; and one sister, May Wilson. Left to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Donna Helms (Lee), Brenda Fields (Donnie), and Margie Hale (David); six sons, Stanley Grills (Heidi), Arthur Grills, Roger Grills (Sandy), Timmy Grills (Sarah), David Grills, and Daniel Grills (Charity Palmer); brother, Tommy Norris; 19 grandchildren, Joey Grills (Lisa), Megan Wardell, Kim Allen (Paul), Shianna Grills, Scout Grills, Colton Grills, Mandy Bowery(Bobby), Jeremy Hale, Crystal Payer (Steve), Josh Grills, Sarah Horton (Matt), Shannon Fields, Hannah Kraemer (Steven), Michelle Morgan (Frankie), Brittany Grills, John Grills, Shayna Grills, Justin Grills, and Chasity Newton (Dusty); 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 1 great-great-grandson on the way; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. David Hale officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Garden of Prayer at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Mary Lou’s grandsons.
