Kingsport – Joe Mullins, 79, of Kingsport, passed away after a long illness at Brookhaven Manor. He was born in Jenkins, Kentucky on September 10, 1930. After moving to Kingsport, he attended Emory and Henry College and East Tennessee State University where he received a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He worked at Eastman Chemical Company for thirty-seven years and retired as a senior chemist.
His parents Everette and Kate Mullins; brothers, Kenneth Mullins and Sonny Shelby; one sister Betty Lee Baker and a special nephew Randy Shelby preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years Marie Mullins, Kingsport; daughter, Mitzi Mullins-Daniel, Blountville; son, Greg Mullins, Kingsport; brother, Bill Mullins, Blountville; three granddaughters, Chelsea and Megan Daniel, Blountville and Rachel Mullins, Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 1p.m. on Tuesday in East Lawn Memorial Park with Mike Morgan, officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold “John” Goff, Jimmy Gilley, James Gilley, Jamie Church, and Phil Wampler.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Candy Tester, Heather Phillips, Rebecca Grills, and the rest of the staff on the 1st hall at Brookhaven for their loving care and support during his illness.
