George Edwin Gardner III, 83, of Kingsport, went to be with Jesus on Sunday (May 20, 2018) after a lengthy battle with cancer. G.E. was born on April 13, 1935 in Glamorgan, Wise County, VA to the late George Edwin II & Hattie (Rogers) Gardner.
G.E. was an avid golfer his entire life and still loved and followed the sport up to his last days. He was self-employed most of his life as a contractor and painter. He was a long haul truck driver in his later years. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, G. E. was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (Rosie) Gardner in 2011; brothers, Max, Bob (Quinn), and Keith (Googles) Gardner; and brother in-laws, Leo Shelton and Charles Parker.
He is survived by his daughters, Angie Cooper & husband Kevin and Glenda Ferguson & husband Jamey, all of Kingsport; son, Randy Gardner & wife Laura of Mt. Pleasant SC; mother of his children, Teena P. Gardner of Kingsport; two sisters, Joyce Shelton and Vivian Parker; two brothers, Roger Gardner & wife Barbara and Dennis Gardner & wife Mamie; two grandchildren, Clinton Myers & wife Rachel, and Brandi Bell & husband Doug; five great-grandchildren; and long-time companion, Dolly; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday (May 23, 2018) at 11 a.m. in the Garden of Hope at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Douglas Bell officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery after 10:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends anytime at the home of Angie & Kevin Cooper.
