Everett E. “Lightning” Light, 84, of Kingsport, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born on May 25, 1931 in Washington County, TN, he was the son of the late Wilson Hedrick Light and Opal Roberts Light. Mr. Light enjoyed car racing and loved his garden, especially his tomatoes and cucumbers. On December 8, 2006 he accepted his Lord as his personal Savior and has been a changed man ever since. In addition to his parents, Wilson Hedrick and Opal Roberts Light, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shelby; his brothers Don, Herb and Bill; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma Baines Light; children, Janet Blevins and her husband, Tom, Shirley Cross and her husband, Elmer, Terry “Gene” Light and his wife, Jennifer, Robert “Bob” Light and his wife, Beverly, and Michael Light and his wife, Kay; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Launa, Nancy and Kathy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2015 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Evangelist Johnny Persinger officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the Garden of The Good Shepherd of East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons and great-grandsons.
