Born to Francois and Camille Reed Soileau. She was one of ten children, seven girls and three boys. Several years into her childhood, her family moved to Ville Platte, La where she lived until 1943.
Growing up on a working farm girls were expected to do chores and assist their mother with household duties.
In high school she was an active member in 4-H and participated in pole vaulting and baseball.
In 1942, she met her soon to be husband who was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA. Meeting Clayton Hebert at Evangeline Club, she knew right away that he was the man she wanted to marry. On June 19, 1943, they married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platt, LA.
Being in the military meant moving to new locations and traveling around the world.
On April 5, 1944, Clayton Andrew Hebert, her first child was born. Next assignments were Champ Chaffee, AK, and FT Polk, LA. Their second child, Jeannie, was born March 12, 1946. Moving next to Japan and back to LA, her third child, Joan was born Oct. 12, 1953, while her husband was stationed in Korea. The next big move were to FT. Hood, TX, Ville Platte, LA, Germany, and back to Ft. Hood, TX remaining there until her husband retired in 1964.
Settling down in Killeen, she was a founding and lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Nazel worked 25 years for the Ft. Hood Post Exchange as a receiving clerk.
An amazing cook she enjoyed making Cajun meals for her family and friends. Shae and her husband were active members of Killeen Kickers Square Dance Club, serving as local and state officers.
Having little spare time she enjoyed quilting, sewing and serving her church as a member of Legion of Mary Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
After her husband’s death in 2006, Nazel stayed busy being with her grandchildren Alan Gawryszewski (MaryLynn), Bryan Gawryszewski (Tammy), Todd Gawryszewski (Paige), Michael (Sarah), Clay Hebert (Regina), Sara Smith (Nathan, Rachel Smith Rayon (Robert).
Nazel was preceded in death by her parents, son Andy Hebert, and sibblings: Herbert Soileau, Marie Fontenot, Lelma Fuselier, Ferrier Soileau, Melda Vestal, Nettie Rozas, Amy Tate and Francis Soileau, as well as Rick Robinson (son in law deceased). She is survived by her sister Bertha Morein (Woodrow), daughters Jeannie Gawryszewski (Ron) Killeen, TX, and Joan Robinson, Pipe Creek, TX.
Great Grandchildren: Connor Gawryszewski (Abbi), Lindsey Folmar (Travis), Cooper Gawryszewski, Cali Jade Jackson (Sam), Trenton Hebert, Aubra Hebert, Rory Rayon, Robyn Rayon, Ryan Gawryzsewski, and Rylie Gawryszewski.
Great Great Grandchildren: Sydney Gawryszewski, Clayton Wade Gawryszewski, and Alex Jade Jackson.
