Long time Killeen resident Mary Lott died at 6:30 AM on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 after a three-week struggle to recover from complications following a broken hip. Her son, Lee, and daughter, Linda, were at her side when she passed.
Mary was born in Waco, Texas in 1928, and was raised during the Great Depression by her parents, Ervin and Roberta Richards along with her three sisters, Alma Ruth, June and Ann, all of whom worked in the family café and boarding house across the street from the campus of Baylor University. She attended North Texas State and Baylor University, obtained a teacher’s certificate, and taught music before she married Ray Lott in 1949. Ray and Mary moved to Killeen in 1950. Mary was particularly proud of the job she did raising her children and strongly believed that being a mother was among Life’s highest callings.
Mary also spent countless hours in community service and charitable activities. Groups such as Eastern Star, Modern Study Club and the First United Methodist Church benefited from her participation.
Prior to her death, Mary requested that any honorariums or memorials be made to either the organ fund at the First United Methodist Church (in keeping with her love of music) or the American Cerebral Palsy charities (in memory of her third child, Amelia, who died of CP complications at the age of six in 1962).
Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ray; her children, Lee and Linda; her grandchildren, Carrie, Barry, Brooke, Adrian and Carson; and her sister, Ann.
The family will receive visitor from6-8pm Friday October 1, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen.
