Dr. Kim grew up in Korea, the second oldest of eight children, and graduated from Chonnam Medical School in 1966, having received a full scholarship. Dr. Kim practiced medicine in the military beginning with his time as a Captain in the Vietnam War and later after immigrating to the United States, as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, and a Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his career in the U.S. Armed Forces, Dr. Kim settled into private medical practice.
Dr. Kim was a warm, kind and proficient doctor who placed the needs of his patients above all other priorities. He was a pillar of the local community in Killeen where his leadership and kindness touched many lives.
He was a man of deep faith, and an elder at Woori United Methodist Church. He always prioritized his faith as central to his life.
Dr. Kim was a natural athlete who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, golfing and skiing. He was an intellectually curious person who loved to learn and he was an avid reader throughout his entire life.
Dr. Kim was a courageous and honorable man, a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, mentor, healer, and friend. He dedicated his life to helping others, including making many sacrifices to support his extended family.
Dr. Kim is survived by a loving family, including his beautiful, loving and dedicated wife of 54 years, Young Bok Kim; his daughters, Jessica Kim and Esther Sobol; his granddaughters Emma Sobol and Jane Sobol; his brothers, Young Ki Kim and Woong Ki Kim; his sisters, Soon Ja Kim, Soon Hi Park, Soon Sun Son, and Soon Cho Lee; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chae Ok and Hak Sil Kim; and his brother Chan Ki Kim.
Dr. Kim's legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on in the hearts he touched and the lives he changed for the better. He will be forever missed and cherished by all those who knew him.
A visitation for Dr. Kim will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S Fort Hood St, Killeen, Texas 76542.
A funeral service will occur at 12:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Woori United Methodist Church, 4710 E. Rancier Ave, Killeen, Texas 76543.
Dr. Kim will be laid to rest in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542-4945.
