April 19, 1971 - January 28, 2016
Tracy Kathleen Morwood, after a short but intense battle with cancer, passed away in Kenora, Ontario, on January 28, 2016. Tracy was forty-four years young.
Tracy is survived by her husband Grant Hayton and her son Elliott Hayton, her step-children Robert Hayton and Kathleen Hayton and grandson Jonah, her parents Marian and Ralph Morwood, her mother-in-law Evelyn Hayton, her brother Dan Morwood and wife Valerie Morwood, her brother-in-law Lorne Hayton and sister-in-law Valerie Sarna and husband Pat, and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Tracy was born in Winnipeg, and spent most of her youth in Virden, Manitoba. She completed her university education and teacher training at Brandon University. She began her teaching career at the St. Theresa Point First Nation in Manitoba, and moved to Kenora in 1995. She taught for the Kenora Board of Education and the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board at Lakewood School, King George VI School, and at Valleyview School. She also taught piano privately.
Tracy lived passionately and intensely in so many ways. First and foremost she was a dedicated mother to her son Elliott, who was her pride and joy, and who exemplifies all of his mother's best qualities. She was a dedicated wife, and a wonderful teacher. All who knew Tracy loved and cared for her because of the unselfish giving that was her every breath. There are dozens of people to whom she was a close friend. All her school students and her piano students know how much she cared about them, and Tracy maintained relationships with many who she taught twenty years ago. Tracy believed fiercely in the importance of helping everyone start the day well-nourished, and devoted countless hours to the Valleyview Breakfast Program. She was always a peacemaker, trying to harmonize relationships within her family and among her friends. Another of Tracy's great loves was her athletic activities. She was a very talented and highly competitive runner, participating enthusiastically in the local running community, and more recently enjoyed recreational cycling and paddle boarding. She loved the beauty of the Kenora area, and never failed to remark on what a gorgeous and splendid day it was. She was also, to the satisfaction of many, a very talented baker.
The family would like to thank all her doctors and nurses, and all the staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, for the exemplary care Tracy received during her illness.
Visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A Celebration in honour of Tracy's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Knox United Church in Kenora. Interment will be in the Kenora Cemetery, followed by a light lunch at Knox Church.
