Kevin was born on June 2, 1964 in Kenora, Ontario and became part of the dePorto family at the age of 3. He attended Kinvalley School, Graduating in 1986 and later attended Arc Industries to gain work experience. He worked various jobs in the Kenora community where he met and became friends with many people.
Kevin was a Special Olympics team member for many years as a swimmer and enjoyed swimming regularly most of his life. He also participated in the bowling league until health would not permit, when he then volunteered on bowling nights with Janice. Kevin lived with a few life-sharing families and chose to live with Janice and Andrew in August 2008. This proved to be the best move in Kevin’s adult years. He loved his new extended family and enjoyed traveling to visit new people and places. He was able to travel with his new family to Cuba, Mexico, Toronto, Ontario twice, B.C., London, Ontario 3 times and numerous drives to Thunder Bay. He was eager to go somewhere new, but of course when asked if he wanted to travel, he would always say yes, Andrew could stay home and Janice is mine. Kevin loved children and particularly enjoyed sleepovers with the grandchildren, with lots of games and teasing done by Uncle Kevin. We will miss you Uncle Kevin and love you to the moon & back.
The dePorto family wishes to express how grateful they are to Janice and Andrew and their family for giving Kevin so many wonderful experiences, memories and lots of love over his last 10 years. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Pinecrest Home, specifically Michael Limerick (NP), Nurses Jan, Vicky, Suzanne & Scott and the activation team for the care given to Kevin in his short time there.
A Celebration of Kevin’s life and accomplishments will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre with Father Rudy Manaloto officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donation in Kevin’s memory may be made to the Special Olympics or It’s a Dog’s Life.
