We are grieved to announce the unexpected passing of John Bunting. John was a member of Wabaseemoong lndependent Nation. He passed away in his community February 19th, 2018 at the age of 62. John was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Kenora, Ontario.

John was an amazing father to his children and grandfather to his grandchildren. John grew up playing hockey which he immensely enjoyed. He was raised immersed in his culture and family. John enjoyed fishing, traditional teachings, spending time in the bush gathering medicines, and his children.

John graduated from Loyalist College and successfully achieved his social service diploma.

John is predeceased by his parents Jim and lda Bunting, grandparents Jacob and Annie McDonald (Bigblood), sister Josephine, Uncles Cornelius, Simon, and George McDonald Sr. Niece and Nephews Hushie, Annette, Elizabeth, Allison, and Barrett, Cousins Art, George, Cyrena.

John is survived by his partner Janet Scott and loving family. His children Elaine McDonald, Candice Bunting (Matthew), Nadine Swartout, Joni Bunting, Jazanne Bunting, John Jr. Bunting, and Jeonni Bunting. His grandchildren Martella, Alicia, Giles, Jaymee, Brave, and Prince. Also his step daughters Tessa & Della Guimond.

His, siblings George (Susie), Norman, Mary, Gordon, and James Bunting. Nieces and Nephews Rocky(Gretchen), Darlene (Larry), Jeffrey (Edna), Brandon (Judy), Jennifer (Mike), David (Cheyenne), Adrian, Ronnie, Harvey, Darnell, David, and Elaine (Jaret), Mary, Ramona, Valene and all of their children too numerous to mention. His lifelong friends John Paishk and Peetas Kakekegumick and good friends Dean Yik, Marshall Hardy, Merle Sandy, Harold Pishe and Adolphus Cameron.

The family would like to thank the community members, first responders, Treaty Three Police who all came to the aid during this time.

A wake will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 beginning at 1:00 pm at the Miizhakiiwetung Memorial School. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am with interment to follow.
