Ainsley was born in Winnipeg Manitoba, and grew up in both Winnipeg and Shoal Lake #40 with her parents and Kookum Esther. She is the oldest of five siblings, three sisters and one brother whom she went above and beyond for. Her gentle and nurturing spirit was translated into all of the relationships she cultivated in her 22 years.
From the age of one, Ainsley loved to dance pow wow. This journey began at home while her dad would sing and drum for her and continued at local pow wow clubs her parents hosted throughout the years. You could always find her sharing her love of dancing on the pow wow trail. She loved to dance “old style jingle”. As a jingle dress dancer, she honored the healing this dance provided. She danced for her family, friends, community and anyone who needed it. Participating in specials with other women in her category was also cherished.
All of those who knew her, knew she loved to joke around and had the most infectious laugh. There was never a doubt you would share a deadly laugh in her presence. If you are lucky, memories such as these were captured in a photo or video.
Ainsley had many hobbies. She would never pass up an opportunity to fish, whether that was at a local derby or with friends and family. She loved gaming with her sister and cousins and recently got into gardening. Both her and Heaven had planned to start a garden at her Kookum Esther's house. She spent most of her time with the love of her life, Heaven. They enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends together. She recently moved into a new home with her sister Trina, both ready to begin a new chapter of their lives together. Both inseparable from day one. Ainsley always spoke about how excited she was to watch Emerson grow up and witness all of his milestones.
Ainsley graduated high school in 2020 and had dreams to attend post- secondary and pursue a career in the field of early childhood education. Ainsley naturally gravitated towards working with children, and it was evident that every child in her life felt the genuine joy, and care embodied through her presence.
In 2018, Ainsley and a big group of her Shoal Lake 40 peers participated in the Jay’s Care foundation, Baseball Rookie league. They were so proud to have won the league Championship that year, this landed them a trip to Toronto to attend a Blue Jays game. This was a great accomplishment for all the youth and Ainsley was so excited and proud to be a part of this memorable time for our community.
Ainsley looked up to her uncle Kevin. She was so thrilled to be a part of the National walk for youth mental health - Hope in the Darkness. She joined the walk starting from the Centre of Canada and finished in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Her Kookum Esther and late Mooshum, Henry loved to take her and her sister Trina to the arena to skate and this is where her love for hockey began. She played for many teams: the house league in Kenora, Beaver Brae Broncos, and Shoal Lake Flyers women’s division.
Her late grandma Alice called her Adalay, and loved to watch her dance jingle and play hockey. Ainsley missed her very much, and we take comfort in knowing she is with her and those who left before her.
Our family would like to thank Shoal Lake #40 chief and council, mobile crisis, Kenora Chiefs Advisory, Kenora emergency response team, Kenora Hospital Staff, Shoomis Earl, Lorne, auntie Kristen and uncle Billy for the firewood. Kara for all of the fundraising and everyone who donated and provided support to our family during this difficult time.
Wake services will be held at Shoal Lake #40 Band Office Gym, Sunday October 6th and 7th. A traditional funeral will be led by Colin Mousseau on Tuesday October 8th. In accordance with traditional protocols please refrain from wearing red. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.
