Mr. William Thurman Allen, age 80, and Mrs. Dale Lee Allen, age 77, both of Powder Springs, GA, passed away peacefully, together in their home, Thursday, January 15, 2015. Mr. and Mrs. Allen were married for 61 wonderful years; they were inseparable even unto death.
Mr. Allen was born in Atlanta, GA., he retired from Georgia Power Company after 31 years of service . He then began working for Winkenhofer Funeral Homes where he was able to fulfill his passion for helping other people. He worked there until the summer of 2013. Thurman loved spending time with his wife, family and friends. He loved to laugh and cut up and he enjoyed giving gifts to those around him, in fact as a young boy, he bought his mother their very first family t.v. from money he had saved from his newspaper route.
Mrs. Allen was born in Atlanta, GA, she retired from Yellow Freight System after a long career. Dale passionately loved Jesus and read her Bible and prayed daily. She adored her husband, her children and her entire family and devoted her life to them. She loved the beauty of God's creation and enjoyed spending time perfecting her flower garden. She also enjoyed interior decorating. Her great faith in God was evident throughout her life, she was a very strong prayer warrior.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen were members of First Baptist Church of Powder Springs; they loved to travel, and enjoyed Southern Gospel Music. They took an Alaskan Cruise, traveled to Switzerland, Austria, Canada and many other places within the United States but their favorite by far was their trip to the Holy Land where they were both baptized in the Jordan River. Their love for each other was unshakeable and without end, and their love for the Lord was greater still. The most important common thread between them both was the love they had for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen are survived by their four children, Debbie Goswick and her husband Jim of Dallas, Laurie Jordan and her husband Richard of Woodstock, Doug Allen and his wife Sherry of Dunwoody, and Dwayne Allen and his wife Laura of Lynn Haven, FL. They are also survived by thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Allen is survived by his sisters Bobbie Roberts and Catherine Lovin. Mrs. Allen is survived by her brother Joseph Tidwell.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. and Mrs. Allen will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, January 18, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, 4330 North Ave Powder Springs, GA 30127, with Rev. Mike Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Atlanta, GA.
The family will receive friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm and 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
