Melanie Diana Blackburn, born on January 22, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, left this world on February 28, 2024. She was a force of nature and her passing has left a void that cannot be filled. Melanie's legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.
The best way I could describe Melanie is to say she was like a firecracker as her presence would not go unnoticed anywhere she went. She lived her life in full color, bright and sparkling, a beacon of confidence and what we could do if we believed in ourselves. She was an academic achiever who was intellectually gifted. She built a career in IT because she never doubted her ability to do so and became a pioneer in the field. Moving on from IT she founded a family landscape company and grew the families business because she believed in what they were doing, but it didn’t stop at what she believed she could do. In her love and generosity she would pour into anyone who was in pursuit of a dream and she saw that special something in someone, whether it be a local artisan, a family member with an idea, a stranger with a talent, she did whatever she could to lift up those around her and pour into them with whatever it was they needed to succeed themselves.
In a life full of accomplishments and achievements to be proud of, we know one thing she was most proud of was her grandchildren, Madison, Lucas and Linnea. The joy and laughter she shared in her time with them was unmatched, and the love that she poured into them will stay with all of us for a lifetime.
Melanie Diana Blackburn was proceeded in death by her mother Pearl Elbana Scott Rhodes and her Father James Edward Rhodes. She is survived by her son, Josh Escue and wife Jodi, grandchildren Madison, Lucas and Linnea, sister Linda and husband Phil McNeely, niece Shannon Rahm, niece Kathy and husband Tim Cox, nephew Scott Babb and Shahn and wife Ellie Babb, and grand nephew Ryan Rahm and grandniece Fagan Babb.
To say her presence is sorely missed is truly an understatement. To honor her memory we ask that you look within and believe in yourself the way she did, and to please live life like Melanie, and sparkle.
A celebration of life will be held at her sisters home, where Melanie loved to sit on the back porch, enjoy the views and pet the cats.
