Mary Cochran Poole, 93 of Marietta, GA went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2023. Mary was born in the Hiram district of Paulding County, Ga June 18, 1930 to Joseph Brownlow and Carrie Amanda Reece Cochran. She was the fifth of eight children born to Joseph and Carrie Cochran, and shared her birthday with a twin sister. She attended school in Hiram, GA in her early years and later moving to Moultrie, GA (Colquitt County, GA) with her parents and several siblings for her high school years and graduated from Moultrie High School in 1949. She played on the Ladies Basketball Team while attending Moultrie High School. Mary worked and helped on the farms where her parents were share croppers while growing up in rural agriculture communities while attending school. And like many of her siblings in the family she worked for a local Cotton Mill during a period of time when she moved in with her sister’s family in Acworth, GA and worked part time while attending school in Acworth her senior year to provide money to return to Moultrie High School and graduate with her Senior Class of 1949. After graduating high school, she went to work for Southern Bell in South Carolina. A few years later she relocated to Cobb County and moved in with her parents and a few of the younger siblings after they had moved back to this area in 1950. Mary married George Wayne Poole on May 8, 1953. They were married for over fifty-six years until his death on May 28, 2009. The union produced four children, ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Surviving children and their spouses are; Terrell (Lynn) Poole, Tim (Kathy) Poole, Tom (Cyndi) Poole, Tammy (Tom) Hiott. Grandchildren; Brandi Cofer, Trey Cofer, Chris Poole, Melissa Poole, Stephanie Yandow, Greg Poole, Jonathan Poole (Deceased), David Poole, Alexandria Hiott, and Caroline Hiott. Mary retired from the Department of Transportation for the state of Georgia with over 35-years of service. After retiring she kept busy assisting families in the metro Atlanta area; the Brogdon, Charles, and Moran Families that quickly became part of her heart and family. She worked and volunteered in countless church nurseries helping to keep babies, toddlers, and meeting new families. She also sold Tupperware for many years and was always the go to person for Family and Friends in need of Tupperware. She and a long-time friend of the family Peggy Vision formed business partnership providing Santa Claus, Photos, Video’s and visits in Metro Atlanta shopping malls during Christmas season for several years. She also worked with Teams that traveled and decorated malls for the Christmas season in the southeast. She was always willing to lend a helping hand in her Husband’s Children’s businesses ventures whenever needed. Mary’s hobbies included baking, candy making, canning, and she square danced with the Kennesaw Square Dealers in the 1980’s. For several years she cooked and helped to host the graduation event and dinner for Antioch Bible College. Mary was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Marietta, GA in recent years. She had been active devoting time and energy in Music Ministries, Assisted Living/Nursing Home Ministries, Hospital Ministries, Church Treasure, Women’s Ministries, and Children’s Worship over the years in the past for the church. As you can see and many have witness first hand our mom led a full and productive life. She will be missed by many, and her memory and legacy will continue in our hearts for generations to come. A special thank you to three special ladies that were mom’s caregivers in the past 3 ½ years who have become part of our family: Jessie Clark, Doris McNinch, and Sharon Kniesler-McFearin. And special thank you to family and friends also that have been so supportive and helpful during mom’s life. Funeral Services and visitation for Mrs. Poole will be Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Chapel at 1:00 PM, Visitation will be prior beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.
