On Tuesday, November 25, 2014, our dear Lord called Joseph H. Figura III (“Fig”), age 52, of Kennesaw, GA home. Joe was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and resided and traveled throughout the country and world. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph H. Figura, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Susie Franklin Figura; daughter Brea Figura; son Joseph H. Figura IV and wife Sunny (Rodgers); mother Donna Figura; sister Sharon Kapolka Celani and family; the Franklin clan; dog Molly (the apple of his eye); an ’84 Monte Carlo (the true love of his life); and a long list of extended family and friends.
Joe proudly served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting after high school graduation and retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer III. He served during Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and was deployed on many carrier operations in the Gulf. He received his B.S. in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University. After retiring from the military, he was employed with the Cobb County Police Department for thirteen years and recently transferred to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department. He was presented with a “Life Saving Award” in 2004 from Cobb County Police Department.
He was and always will be a proud member of Steeler’s Nation, and, if you ask him, a champion at fantasy football. His quick wit would undoubtedly fill a room with contagious laughter, bringing smiles to everyone around. Though his family loved his larger-than-life personality, to them he was their gentle giant, rock, and hero. Joe’s family was his truest passion and deepest love.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 2nd at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home (2950 North Cobb Pkwy. Kennesaw, GA 30152) from 1-3 pm and 5-8 pm. A last viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 1 – 3pm. A procession will follow to North Star Church (3413 Blue Springs Rd. Kennesaw, GA 30144) where a service will be held at 3:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Joseph Figura.
