Ellen W Hamilton

Born on Valentine’s Day to Clarence Edward and Augusta Martin Ward in Camden, (Wilcox County) Alabama on February 14, 1930.

She attended Wilcox Elementary, Willcox High School and Livingston Teacher College, graduating in 1952.

Ellen married her college sweetheart and star football player, William H. (Big Bill) Hamilton, Jr. August 23, 1950.

She was blessed with two sons, William H. (Little Bill) Hamilton III and Steve Ward Hamilton that she raised as Baptists.

In 1959, Ellen and Bill moved from Camden, Alabama to Acworth, Georgia to teach school.

She retired from the Cobb County School System after 30 years teaching at Acworth Elementary School.

After retiring, she opened and operated Hamilton Frames, a custom picture frame shop, on South Main Street in Acworth for 22 years. There she enjoyed crafting, painting and decorating.

After selling the frame shop, her passion and purpose in life was as matriarch of the Hamilton family, as wife to Bill and as babysitter and mentor to her grandsons, Will and Max, which were the greatest joy in her life.

She was a lifetime Baptist, with many years spent as a children’s Sunday school teacher.

A graveside service will be held 2 pm Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Reaves Chapel Cemetery in Coy Alabama. Dunklin Funeral Home in charge of Graveside service
