He was born in Ocilla, Georgia on March 24, 1935 to Leonard and Osteen Griffin. He met wife future wife, Edna Collum, while attending school. After the couple married on September 16, 1965, they were blessed with one daughter, Daphne.
Mr. Griffin was a kind hearted man who loved his family. He was an active member of Hill Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for 40+ years. He had a great love for traveling and had been to over 30 different countries with his wife as well as all 50 states other than North Dakota. After retiring in 1993 as a customer service representative at Georgia Power, he focused on his main hobby of restoring vintage cars. Although he could fix almost anything on the vehicles, he really enjoyed doing the bodywork. His pride and joy included his A Model and '35 Ford Truck.
Mr. Griffin was more affectionately known as "CJ" and also "Grif" to his buddies that he'd eat breakfast with every morning. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Charlie J. Griffin is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Osteen Griffin and brothers, Denzil and Thurmon Griffin. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Edna C. Griffin; daughter, Daphne Griffin; brother, Herman Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, and in laws.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw with Funeral Services Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gerald McPherson and Rev. Todd Tibbitts officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw.
