Tony was born June 22, 1943, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Fred and Ofelia Korey and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He met is wife, Barbara, of 58 years at Happy Acres Ranch where they were both camp counselors.
After marrying and moving to Atlanta, GA, he earned Bachelors in
English and Master of Science in Criminal Justice and became a distinguished alumni from Georgia State University.
After returning from Vietnam, he began an impressive 40-year career in law enforcement with Atlanta Police Depart and Fulton County Police Department as a walking beat cop, later becoming one of the most effective undercover narcotics agents in the state. He retired from Fulton County Police Department as Deputy Chief and the Director of the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center.
Congruent with his career in public safety, he was also dedicated to the education of the next generation, teaching Criminal Justice, Public Safety and Criminology for 38 years at Georgia State University, Mercer University, Chattahoochee Technical College and multiple other universities.
He is also an accomplished author of two novels, The Seminarian, The Road Back To God and The Cop: The Minister, The Twisted Road To Justice.
His heart for people was most evident in his volunteering. Most notably, he was a dedicated mentor to the youth at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. He made a lasting impact on young men and women through teaching Sunday School, mentoring young men, chaperoning countless youth camps and events.
His greatest desire was to help people, the underdog, the helpless; and share the love of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fishing, making people laugh and telling unbelievable stories that were (almost) all true. His humor and loving heart left a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure to know him.
Tony is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Scott and Kelly; his grandchildren, Sean, Korey and Kristina; his sister, Cecilia, and his brothers Fred and Johnny; and many loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ofelia, and his brother, Shane.
A memorial service will be held on July 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Kennesaw Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to Kennesaw First Baptist Church’s Outreach Fund.
The Korey family extends their heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at Kennestone Hospital for their compassionate care for Tony and the family.
Tony will be dearly missed and remembered for his generosity, his heart for Jesus, his amazing (mostly true) stories and his passionate love for his family.
