Graduate of Riverside High School and St Mary’s School of Business.
Employed at M & T Bank (prior to marriage)
Enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues, and sewing and quilting at Resurrection Lutheran Church. This group produced numerous quilts to be shared with those in need in the US and across the world.
Long time Erie county and Cheektowaga resident, Theresa (Finsterbach) Unger, 96, passed away on May 5, 2018 at Elderwood Cheektowaga.
Theresa, one of six children, was born to Edna (Duerr) and Frank Finsterbach on December 14, 1921 She was baptized and confirmed at All Saints Roman Catholic Church. She graduated from Riverside High School and St Mary’s School of Business.
Theresa was employed at Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company where she met the love of her life Donald John Unger. They were married at Resurrection Lutheran Church on August 17, 1946. After moving to Cheektowaga, they raised two daughters, Cheryl and Donna. Theresa was a member of St. Aloysius RC Church.
As a young woman, Theresa owned her own horse and loved riding him with her sisters and friends. Theresa served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for many years, was active in bowling leagues, participated in fitness activities, and in more recent years joined a quilting group at Resurrection Lutheran Church. The quilts produced by this group were not only beautiful but warm, and were sent to families in both the United States and abroad. Member of Silver Sneakers, Auxiliary member of AM VETS Post #49. Theresa was an animal enthusiast.
Don passed away in 2006 and in 2013 Theresa moved to Elderwood Assisted Living in Williamsville and in 2017 to Elderwood Cheektowaga.
