Five days after celebrating his 27th wedding anniversary, Terry embarked on the next leg in life’s journey to a place where there is no more pain or paralysis. He passed away at home surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter after a nine-month battle with a rare and aggressive cancer.
He loved his family and would do anything for them. Terry was a “glass half-full” kind of guy; he was cheerful and kind and a bit of a practical joker. He was blessed with many friends who visited and lent a helping hand during his illness. He was a hard worker and had made a name for himself in commercial refrigeration. It was said that “if McKinney installed a store, it was done right”.
He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Christmas Day 1935. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Elizabeth, sisters Isabelle (in infancy) Margaret Bell and Patricia Fraser, and brothers Bernard, Harry, John and Joseph. He is survived by his wife Glenda, daughter Kathleen (Ray Tavernier), sons Patrick and Shawn, granddaughters Shelby and Taylor, sisters Eileen Huffman and Marie (Arnie Funke), of Calgary, one brother Gerry of Dawson Creek, brother-in- law Joe Fraser of Kelowna, and many nieces and nephews from Rome to Vancouver. Also mourning is Glenda’s family in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Ohio.
The family thanks all the friends (too many to mention) who were there for us physically, emotionally and prayerfully during this journey. Thanks to Dr. Jennifer Parsons, Kathy and Julie at the Guisachan Clinic for their compassionate care and timeliness when things needed to happen quickly. We also thank the wonderful, dedicated and compassionate Palliative Care team, Christine, Sheila and Sue. You supported us physically and emotionally so we could help ease his passing.
“What love could do was done.”
A mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday, May 9, at 10:30 am at Corpus Christi Parish, 750 Rutland Road North. Cremation to follow with inurnment at a later date.
