KLEIN: Shirley , beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many, has left this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a zest for life that will never be forgotten.
Born in Ogema, Saskatchewan, Shirley’s journey was nothing short of remarkable. From humble beginnings, she blossomed into a woman of boundless talent, charm, and resilience. From high school basketball star to an avid golfer who could dazzle on the greens, scoring an incredible five hole-in-ones and winning countless championships. She was not only athletic but also creative. She sewed, knitted, painted, cooked, baked, and hosted unforgettable gatherings. When a reporter once asked who her favorite designer was, Shirley proudly replied, “I sew my own dresses.” Her self-made creations were as vibrant and unique as she was.
Shirley was also the ultimate partner to her husband, Jack Klein, as they navigated an extraordinary life together. From restaurant ventures to the Sunset Amusement Park, operating hobby shops, and supporting Jack’s political career in Saskatchewan, Shirley’s unwavering support and energy were front and center.
Her love for adventure took her far beyond the prairies. Shirley and Jack had a deep affection for Hawaii, spending many winters there over the years. Jack’s career took them all over the world, and they enjoyed semi-retirement in Mesa, Arizona, before settling in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Shirley was born July 29, 1937, and died on December 5, 2024, in Kelowna, B.C. Her loving husband of sixty years, Jack Charles Klein, predeceased her. Left to cherish her memory are her children Mark (Shelley), Cathy (Jose), Brad, Luke (Maggie), and Michael (Jeffrey).
She was also predeceased by her father, Nicholas Tokalski; her mother, Aglaia “Agnes” Tiefenbach (nee Fluter); her sister, Marjorie Wilson; and her stepfather, Anton Jr. Tony Tiefenbach.
