Mary Alexandra Rimmer

Mary Alexandra Rimmer (nee Hayes) passed away on August 19, 2021 in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 95. She is survived by niece Patricia Hurley (Doug); nephews Michael O’Neil (Linda) and Colin O’Neil (Dawn); niece Kathleen O’Neil (Steve); nephew Bruce Moser (Nicki) and brother-in-law Herb Moser. She is also survived by great nephew and nieces Terry (Kim); Kelly (Gavin); Kevin (Cora); Keriann (Brad); Courtenay (Dominic); Shawn (Becky); Taylor and Cody (Sonal); great-great nieces and nephews Logan; Tristan; Elliott; Conner, Dekland; Nia, Roman, Blaze and Mila.

Mary is predeceased by her parents A. Paul Hayes and Maria Hayes, her husband Leo Rimmer, her sister Gertrude Moser, brother-in-law Patrick O’Neil; nephew Patrick O’Neil and great niece Lindsay Osborne.

Mary Alexandra was born in Kelowna, B.C. on January 19th, 1926 to Paul and Maria Hayes. She lived virtually her entire life in Kelowna. Mary ventured out at the age of 22 to spend a year living in England, travelling to visit relatives and working as well. Part way through her trip, her mother joined her and they did some travelling in the area prior to taking a ship back to Canada together. Upon returning to Kelowna, Mary spent several years working in the accounting, insurance and investment business industries as an administrative support.

As many knew, Mary was quite a fan of federal politics and in particular, Pierre Trudeau. She enjoyed a few trips back east to Ottawa to wander the parliament buildings, Rideau Hall grounds and Ottawa in general. While spending her time there, she attended many sessions of Question Period.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 9 at 11 am at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC. Tea to follow. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please RSVP to Kathleen if you wish to attend. Email: [email protected].
