She attended Princess Public School and Woodstock Collegiate Institute where she was active in student events, participated in school theatrical productions, sports and was an officer in the student Cadet Corps.
Growing up she and her family were committed members of Chalmers United Church. She was a competitive figure skater, a qualified lifeguard and exceptional swimming instructor, and earned a Grade 8 piano certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
After high school she attended Alma College for Young Women in Saint Thomas ON and graduated in 1952 as an Executive Secretary. Marilyn moved to London ON and worked with London Life, the University of Western Ontario, CFPL TV, and Labatt Brewery.
In 1957 she married and had three children Brad, Sandi and Gillian. She moved to Victoria, BC in 1975 and held positions at Hillside Mall Administration, the Conservatory of Music, and Berwick House where she was the Administrative Assistant from 1989-2000 when she retired.
She was a devoted and active parishioner at Cadboro Bay United Church of Canada and a long term energetic member of the Gordon Head Lions Club; as well as, a regular volunteer at Our Place Shelter and Berwick House where she led piano singalongs. After retirement she continued to enjoy gardening, golf, bridge, piano playing and live theater/concerts.
In early 2022 she moved to Penticton BC into a LTC residence where she gently passed June 20 at the age of 89 years.
She was predeceased by her daughter Gillian in 1997 and is survived by her daughter Sandi Van Den Heuvel and grandsons Christopher and Matthew in Kelowna BC, her son Brad Geiger in London ON, and her brother Murray Shantz in Winchester Virginia.
