Born in Ramsbottom, England in 1922, Joan moved to Kelowna, British Columbia in 1945 as a war bride. She met her beloved husband Basil in London where he was serving with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. They married in 1942 and had son Stuart prior to immigrating to Canada.
Joan was serving in the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) at the time she met Basil, and she remained involved in the War Brides Association throughout her life. Joan and Basil went on to have two daughters in Kelowna, where they settled and lived for the remainder of their lives.
Joan was predeceased by Basil in 1999. She is survived by her son Stuart (Helen) and two daughters, Merron and Barbara (Carl). She is also survived by grandchildren Deanne, Sherri, Jason, Brad, Corry, Michael, Ryan, Dustin and Brie and twenty great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brother Jack and is survived by sisters Irene, Sheila and brother Brewis.
She was embraced by the Jennens family after arriving in Canada, and became part of a big and loving Canadian family. Many of her British family eventually made their way to Kelowna as well.

Joan’s Celebration of Life will take place on Monday May 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue in Kelowna.
