Janet Dorothea Seager Wood

1929 - 2014

Died peacefully on September 6, 2014 surrounded by her children at Hospice House in Kelowna.

She will be missed by her children, Angus (Debbie), Barbara (Jim Rader) and Mick (Suzanne); her brother, Robert Stirling; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Wood, her brother William (Bill) Stirling and her sister, Barbara Milledge.

Long-time Kelowna resident and member of Kelowna pioneer family, Jan was born February 5, 1929 in Vancouver to Gwen and Dick Stirling.

In her early years she was an avid horse rider at the Kelowna Riding Club, and swim instructor and lifeguard at the Kelowna Aquatic. Jan married Bill Wood in 1956 in Los Angeles, California. They moved back to Kelowna in 1958 to settle as a family.

Jan was active in St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church. She was ordained a deacon in 2004, a proud moment for her and her family.

Jan had a strong commitment to her family and gave of herself tirelessly. One of Jan’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren in whom she delighted. She will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels (608 Sutherland Avenue) in Kelowna on Thursday, September 11 at 10:00 am. Donations to St. Michael’s Memorial Fund in Jan’s memory gratefully received.
