Gwen Johnson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in Kelowna General Hospital late in the afternoon on July 23. She is survived by her three children, Jodi-Lyn (Robert), Scott (Tracy) and Shari (Cameron), eight grandchildren (Brianna (Mat), Kyle (Amanda), Alashua (Justin), Cassandra (Lauren), Zachary, Amanda (Sam), Cody, and Matthew), 3 great-grandchildren (James, Hudson and Emily) and another great-grandchild on the way.
Gwen was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and emigrated to Canada as a teenager with her parents. They settled in Toronto, Ontario. In 1962, she married her first husband in Toronto and they had three children. In 1972, Gwen and her family moved to Yellowknife, NWT where she lived and worked with the NWT Housing Corporation for the next 9 years. In 1981, Gwen relocated with her two younger children and second husband to Kelowna. Here she worked for Central Okanagan School District #23 until her retirement in 2004.
Gwen had a keen eye for interior design and enjoyed choosing “just the right piece” to complete a room. She enjoyed travelling and visited many countries throughout her life including: the United States, Greenland, Cuba, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Dubai and China. She had a love, in particular, of Tuscany and the Cinque Terre regions of Italy. In her later years, when not travelling, Gwen enjoyed Scottish Country Dancing. All of her life, Gwen was happiest outside, perhaps sitting on her balcony, with a cup of coffee or glass of wine, and enjoying the warmth of the sun and the scenery.
At the request of Gwen, no service will be held.
