She leaves to mourn, her son Cary (Alana), her family and dear friends. She is predeceased by her late husband Dr. Keith Akins, her brothers, Trevor and Terry and her cherished friend Pauline.
Gail lived a full and vibrant life up until her last years. She was a natural horsewoman, excelling in equestrian riding at a young age. Throughout her life, she owned many horses and had photo albums filled with memories of riding with her friends.
Gail was also a registered nurse, working in the obstetrics department at Surrey Memorial Hospital, an honor she held close to her heart. She was very proud to have dedicated most of her career to helping women and babies, often sharing stories with her loved ones about her meaningful work.
She was fortunate to have travelled to many countries with her husband, family and friends throughout her life. She was especially fond of China as displayed in her home’s décor.
Gail doted on her gardens which were beautiful, immaculately kept and brought her joy. She hosted dinner parties, and had standing coffee dates with her very dear friends and neighbors on Madrona drive.
In her last year, Gail frequently reminisced about the old days: the ranches, dances, her beloved brothers, her childhood, her cousins and her favorite Aunt Lucy. Her stories brought history to life.
Gail will be fondly remembered for her practical and determined nature, her sharp wit and strong will. She will be lovingly missed.
As an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers a donation to Surrey Memorial Hospital NICU would be appreciated. At the request of Gail, a small private service will be held at a later date.
