December 11, 1929 - January 11, 2017
Dorothy Vogt passed away peacefully on January 11th, 2017 at the age of 87.
She is survived by her three children: daughter Laura (Kent) Lindsay, daughter Anne Vogt, and son Stan Vogt. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren: Phil, Jason, Toby and Grace Lindsay and Emelie and Michael Vogt. Additionally, she leaves her brother-in-law, Donald Collis, as well as a number of Vogt relatives.
In 2002 she was predeceased by her husband, Victor Vogt, with whom she spent almost 47 years. She was also predeceased by her parents, Stanford and Luella (Gerry) Payte, and her sister, Patricia (Payte) Collis.
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Dorothy first pursued a career in teaching. After graduating from 'Normal School' she took on a number of interesting teaching positions around the province. She next decided to become a Social Worker and then enjoyed the challenges that came with that career. It was while she was on the job taking one of the old car ferries across the Fraser River that she met a tall, handsome BC Hydro employee, Vic, who would become her husband.
Vic's career in BC Hydro took Dorothy and family to a number of BC communities, including White Rock, Hope, Chilliwack, and Salmon Arm. They settled in long enough in Salmon Arm to raise their children and to grow many vegetables in Vic's enormous garden. After retirement Vic and Dorothy were happily involved in volunteer missions projects in Hawaii, Mexico and BC. They spent their last years in Kelowna, BC.
From childhood on, Dorothy enjoyed dabbling in art. She even honed her talents at the Banff School of Fine Arts prior to her marriage. Amongst her cherished objects were art supplies and both finished and unfinished art projects.
Life also had its issues and distresses; various challenges, including her husband's illness and her own cancer, were difficult for her. Through it all, she was incredibly consistent in her unwavering faith in God and always hoped to be an encouragement to others.
The family wishes to thank her medical team as well as everyone who called or visited. Special thanks to her grandson, Toby, for his kind support.
Performing an act of kindness or starting an art project would be a fitting way to remember Dorothy.
Memorial Service to take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21st, 2017, at New Life Church, 2041 Harvey Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 6G7.
