Ben worked as an electrician for great northern railway in England from 1950 to 1955 he married Vera Cochrane in September 20, 1956 in Dublin. She joined Ben in England where he was employed by standard telephones and cables limited until 1967.
Ben and Vera welcomed five children while still in England, Sylvia, Margaret, Bernard, Sonia, and Norman.
In 1967, the whole family uprooted and moved to Prince George BC Canada. Ben travelled extensively in northern BC while employed by the Canadian Bible society. He loved to retell stories of his travels and encounters with people hungry for God‘s word. Many times, he was welcomed with the words “you are an answer to prayer! “As he provided the Bibles with the good news of salvation.
In 1977 Ben, Vera, and five children were welcomed as official Canadian citizens
After moving around a little bit Ben and Vera settled in Kelowna in 1989. Ben worked at a variety of jobs including ServiceMaster, central electric, and First Memorial Funeral Services
Ben was a handyman and enjoyed being helpful doing odd jobs around Kelowna Bible chapel. He was a stalwart member, supporting the work and meetings of KBC. He and Vera had many friends at the chapel and enjoyed fellowship there. Ben very much enjoyed golfing with his church buddies in his more active years.
At the end of 2007, Ben and Vera moved into evangel Manor where they enjoyed their final years. Ben and Vera were always seen together until Vera‘s passing in August 2024.
Ben was a joker and was always kidding everyone. Sometimes we were not sure if it was a joke or he was dead serious. When greeting Ben, he always had a snappy reply. However, during his last couple of years, when greeted “good to see you Ben” he would reply, “It’s good to be seen. “
He will be missed by his KBC family and friends and many folks who ministered to him and Vera in their declining years.
A Graveside Service will be held from Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2850 Dry Valley Road Kelowna on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 at 1:30 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com
