She is survived by brother Douglas [France] and sister Patricia [England]. She was predeceased by husband Lawrence in 1994 .
Barbara was born in Southhampton England , September 1931. Barbara and her brother were sent to Ireland during the war to live with relatives . At age 14 Barbara was enrolled in a pre-nursing program for girls 14-18 at a Technical College in Southampton then went on to a full Nursing program, qualifying as a Registered Nurse and later as a Midwife. After nursing in England and later Jamaica, in 1960 Barbara came to Canada and worked at the Lion's Gate Hospital in North Vancouver for several years.
In 1971 Barbara married Lawrence Walker and came to live in Peachland. Barbara worked with the newly formed Home Care program and was instrumental in setting up the Home Care program in Rutland. She resigned in1980 to take the leadership role at David Lloyd Jones Care Home. Dr. David Clarke, Public Health Officier said 'Barbara contributed yeoman service in the area of Elderly Care in Kelowna'. Music was Barbara's passion and she was instrumental in the formation of Chamber Music Kelowna.
Barbara will be missed by her many friends , the congregation at St Andrews Anglican Church and three step Grandchildren.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at St Andrews Church Okanagan Mission Friday December 16 th at 1 o'clock.
