Born in Ikast, Denmark on June 29, 1948, Alice was welcomed into this world by her parents Helga and Holger (deceased), and her three older brothers Erling, Henry (deceased), and Hardy Jensen. Alice became big sister to Gwen, and later in Canada, to her youngest sister Laila. She is survived by her 2 children, Aimee and Tina, who she raised independently and loved fiercely, and her beloved grandchildren, Sofia, Dylan, Isabelle, and Henrik. Alice also leaves behind her 4-legged co-worker and companion, Rosie. Alice will be greatly missed by her clients, colleagues, many friends, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
Alice’s life was marked with adventures and taking risks. She loved to travel and could never stay in one place too long. She cultivated lifelong friendships and was an inspiration to anyone who enjoyed the privilege of her presence. At age 44, Alice achieved her lifelong dream of attending university and graduated with a master’s degree in 2000. She spent the last 20 years assisting survivors of violence to overcome the trauma of abuse and oppression.
As a daughter, sister, mother, auntie, grandma, friend, counsellor, colleague, mother-in-law, and dog-mom, Alice Jensen wanted the best for all of us. She demonstrated persistence, grace, and courage in the face of adversity and injustice, was generous with her kindness, provided comfort, tolerated pranks (unless you got her hair wet), welcomed new friends and visitors, would forgo a meal in lieu of a cinnamon bun or an ice cream cone, and was seriously the best-ever travel companion. The journey of her life took many interesting and sometimes unexpected turns, and she used her life experiences to nurture and guide the many people for whom she cared so deeply. We are forever altered by our interactions with her.
A celebration of life will occur on Sept. 30/22 at 2pm – coffee and deserts to follow
