Suzanne Marie Sheehan, age 69, of Surry, New Hampshire, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022. Suzanne was born on February 3, 1953, to Albert and Thelma Bastille. She grew up in Tiverton, Rhode Island, with her parents and older sister, Marie.
At age sixteen, Sue went to a local baseball game. When she saw the pitcher, she told her friend, "I'm going to marry HIM," and a year later, she did indeed! Paul E. Sheehan and Suzanne M. Bastille were married in July of 1970. They started their life together in Massachusetts and happily welcomed a daughter, Tammy, to their family.
The Sheehans moved to Connecticut in the mid 1970s. They lived in Stafford for a short while, but then they made their home in Union, Connecticut, where they lived for over twenty years. While in Union, Sue was an active part of the community. She even had a four year tenure as Chairwoman of the Board of Education.
Suzanne worked several years at the North American Printing Company, but then she began her career as office manager at a very successful neurology practice. During this time she learned a lot about diseases of the brain and the spinal chord. Over three decades later, Suzanne retired.
Paul and Sue then moved to Surry, New Hampshire. Sue spent her time using her creative talents. She could be found tending to her beautiful gardens, whipping up a tasty meal or dessert, or knitting/crochetting an intricate scarf, sweater, or afghan. She enjoyed making puzzles, playing Words with Friends, and reading. But she was happiest when spending time with her family. Her grandsons, Leif and Tait Ekstrom, brought her much joy, pride, and love.
On April 11, 2022, Suzanne experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage. All those years of running the nuerology practice provided her with insight into her condition. It motivated her to fight hard so she could spend more time with her family. Despite her triumphant spirit, she passed away while holding the hands of her husband and daughter. Her absence is immeasurable, but the family is comforted by the quote, "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day..."
Services and burial will be held privately by the family on Tuesday, June, 14th at the Columbia Center Cemetery, in Columbia, Connecticut.
