Rose M. Karluk

Rose Marie Karluk, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. Rose was born on February 20, 1947 the daughter of Dominic and Helen Gedman, formerly of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Rose was a woman who was passionate about a great many things. Among them were her faith in Jesus Christ, music, the traditions of her Polish heritage and spending quality time with the many friends that she made along the way. Rose had a zest for life and would take on a challenge with energy and purpose. Rose was always an advocate for those that were in need. She and Al were fully involved in the Foster Home program as far back as 1984, taking in more than 40 children over the years, 8 of whom were adopted. Rose worked closely with birth families and helped numerous women in extraordinary ways. With Rose, it was never a means to an end, but rather the strongest way for her to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to the most vulnerable. Rose is described as loving, patient and caring; which would often lead to attachments and strong relationships. When asked why she would risk such an attachment to the children, she said that she would rather deal with her broken heart as an adult, than risk a child’s heart being broken beyond repair. Because of her involvement and “hands on” approach, she was regularly sought out to speak about fostering and could be counted on to be the most vocal advocate for those in need. Rose would eventually rise to leadership in the Dare to Care Foster Parent group in Broome County.

Rose graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Scranton, Pennsylvania and has been an active contributor in the communities of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Binghamton, New York, and Swanzey, New Hampshire. Rose was introduced to the Young Living Essential Oils products by Ben and Elaine Perkus. She would always be telling those that she met that she felt these oils had such a tremendous effect on the quality of her life.

Rose is survived by her husband of 50 years, Al Karluk, her children Christopher Karluk of Swanzey, New Hampshire, TJ Karluk and his wife Dana of Hazel Green, Alabama, Candace and her husband Denny Evans of Phoenix Arizona, Stephanie Karluk of Binghamton, NY, Daniel Karluk in Birmingham, Alabama, Dominica and Joe Berkheimer of Orlando, Florida, Heather Cox of Binghamton, New York, Angelica Karluk of Utica New York, John Karluk of Binghamton, New York, her sister Barbara and her husband Richard Karluk of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, sister Mary Beth Crimmins and her husband Tim of Blakelsee, Pennsylvania, brother Don Gedman and his wife Theresa of State College, Pennsylvania, her brother in-law Robert Karluk and Rhonda, her nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Mike Gedman.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Friday December 7, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. at the Crossway Church located at 28 Arch Street Keene, New Hampshire.
