He was born in Gassetts, Vermont, May 5, 1938, the son of C. D. Uriah Wyman and Hazel I. (Martin) Wyman. He was a 1955 graduate of Chester (VT) High School.
He was a Navy veteran serving two seperate enlistments for a combined total of seven years during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany during his second enlistment, where he met his future wife, Anita M. Hitchings, who was also serving in the Navy. Following the termination of active duty on August 17, 1964, he served in the Army Reserves for eleven years.
A resident of Keene since 1966, Mr. Wyman worked as the purchasing agent for twenty-six years with the City of Keene. He was also a past member of the Keene School Board.
Mr. Wyman was very active in many area organizations including the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 927, serving as Past Exalted Ruler; the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1413; Loyal Order of Moose 478 holding the degree of Pilgrim, the highest degree in the Loyal Order, and also serving as Past President of the Northeast Moose Association; and a member of the Masonic Order in Chester, VT.
He was a life member of the Winchester VFW Post 3968; and a life member of the Gordon-Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4, serving as post Commander for four terms, several terms as post Adjutant, and past State Commander and, recently, as Treasurer for the NH American Legion. He was a life member of the Veterans Council in Keene, and was appointed by the Governor as Chairman of the Board of Managers of the NH Veterans Home in Tilton.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anita M. (Hitchings) of Keene; a daughter, Debra L. Wyman and her fiancé, Justin Wescott, of Keene; a son, James U. Wyman of Keene; three grandchildren, Rebekah A. Howland, Caleb R.J. Howland, Uriah J. Howland; a brother, David Wyman of Chester, VT; a sister, Lucy Johnson of Springfield, VT; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Richard Wyman, and a sister, Elizabeth Clarke.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Family and friends are welcome.
