She was born on October 22, 1930, in Amherst, NH, daughter of the late James B. and Ruth (Carkin) Aytoun. She was raised locally and graduated from Milford High School.
Nancy married the love of her life, Richard E. Smith, with whom she enjoyed over 68 years of companionship and marriage with until his passing in 2019.
A staple of the Homestead Bookstore, Nancy was employed for many years as the weekend Clerk. She may have been known most famously for her creative cards using numerous mediums that many people collected.
Nancy was heavily involved in the Marlborough Federated Church and taught Sunday school to the local children. She supported her children and the local youth through 4H and cub scouts. She was a master quilter and started a group of enthusiasts back in the 70’s. She also was gifted in knitting and made many items showcased in the Church fairs during Christmas.
Nancy leaves behind her children: Jeri L. Canfield and husband Rick, of Shoreham, VT, Gilda L. Goodrich and husband Ed, of Marlborough, and James F. Smith and wife Dawn, of Stoddard; sister: Patricia Ingelstrom and her husband Carl of Peterborough; five grandchildren; several step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was predeceased by her sisters: Marie Durant and Naomi Drury.
A graveside service will be held at Meetinghouse Cemetery, Meetinghouse Road, Marlborough, NH on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 am.
