She was born in Jamaica, Long Island, New York, March 21, 1929, the daughter of Samuel R. and Mary (McCall) Maxwell, and had resided in Vermont and New York and summered in Westmoreland from 1959 to 1978. When she retired in 1978, she moved to Westmoreland year round. She then moved to Chesterfield permanently in the early 90’s.
Mary graduated from the Burr & Burton Seminary in Vermont, and went on to graduate from Simmons College, Stetson University and had attended NYU receiving her Bachelor of Science.
At the time of her retirement, she had taught English in the Sandford FL. School District for a number of years.
She was a member of the Universalist Church of Chesterfield, and had done volunteer work with the Samaritans Hot Line, Meals on Wheels program, Chesterfield Library and the Chesterfield Historical Society.
Survivors include her nieces: Tracey Bursley, Heather Williams, Tammy Tresko, Olivia Maxwell and Melissa Lucas.
Services for Mary will be private per her request. There are no public calling hours.
It was her request that gifts be made in memory of Mary Maxwell, to a charity of one’s choice.
