His parents, Corinne (Martelle) and Lauress J. Johnson welcomed their son into the world on October 16, 1960, in Proctor, VT. Lauress grew up in Bellows Falls and was a 1979 graduate of Bellows Falls Union High School where he was a proud member of the Terrier Cross Country Team, winning four titles. During high school, Lauress worked at HA Mannings and Steamtown USA.
He joined the Navy in October of 1979 and after graduating Navy basic training, he was assigned to the Destroyer USS Barbey where he served for four years. He was then transferred to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem. After serving there for five years, he was ordered to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) where he proudly finished his naval career and was honorable discharged in 2003.
Following his active duty with the Navy in 2003, he went to work for the United States Navy in a civilian capacity where he served on the USS Emory Land until the time of his passing.
Lauress was very proud of his Vermont roots and never forgot where came from as he traveled around the world. He was especially proud of being a Bellows Falls Union High School graduate and followed the high school sports teams from whatever country or sea he was in. He had the unique opportunity to visit almost every country in the world.
Luaress is survived by his daughters, Lorina Johnson of Newport News, VA, Laurissa, of Bremerton, Washington; his brother, Brian (Paula) Johnson of Walpole, NH; his sister, Alesia (George) Rainville of Highgate, VT; his aunt, Eleanor Liiamalainen, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11:00am in The New Cemetery, Kurn Hattin Road, Westminster, VT.
