He was born in Turners Falls, MA., October 6, 1921, the son of Michael A. and Marcianna (Mackowicz) Green and had resided in Greenfield MA. prior to moving to Keene a number of years ago.
He graduated from the Greenfield (MA) High School, class of 1939. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and entered the service in 1946. He held the rank of sargeant and had served in the ETO.
At the time of his recent retirement (just a few months ago) , he was selling ergonomic office chairs. He had previously been employed at Goodnow's Department Store in downtown Greenfield, MA. then went on to work as an outside salesman for Chase's Inc in Keene from 1947 to 1964. He then bought and operated the Nelson C. Faught Company and ran this firm until 1982 when he sold to Allan Kendall Office Specialists where he stayed on to help them for the next three years.
During his working years, he was affectionately known for his extreme work ethic. Days and time meant nothing to him. If there was work to be done, he did it no matter what.
He is predeceased by his wife Ruth A. (Harris) Green whom he married July 17th 1947.
Survivors include: his sons: Peter Green and his wife Paula of Westbrook, ME., and Jonathan Green of Keene; a daughter Margaret (Meg) Green of Keene; one sister Julia Sinclair of South Deerfield, MA., three grandchildren: Katie Swett, Toby Green and his wife Emily and Joshua Green; one great granddaughter Grace H. Green as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Green will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the family lot in the Monadnock View Cemetery in West Keene. Friends are invited. The Reverend Gordon Ellis, Minister of the United Church of Christ in Keene will officiate. There are no public calling hours.
It has been requested that gifts be made in memory of Mr. Green to The Keene Community Kitchen, 37 Mechanic Street, Keene, NH. 03431.
