He was born in North Anson, ME on July 1, 1917, the son of Thomas G. and Rosanna (Aube) Moran. His mother Rosanna died in 1921. His father remarried Alice (Robbins) and together they raised Ernie and his siblings. His family moved to Keene early when he was young and he made his home here for the rest of his life.
Mr. Moran worked for Sears Roebuck in Keene for several years after high school until he joined the service in at the start of WWII where he served in the US Army in the Signal Corp in North Africa. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Sears and installed oil burners for several years.
He married A. Marjorie MacLeod in Reading, MA in 1947.
Mr. Moran was a graduate of Keene High School class of 1934 and Keene Teachers College in 1958. He began his teaching career as a sixth grade teacher in Northfield, MA, followed by a position as assistant principal and Bernardston, MA and finally as a principal in Winchester, NH. He received his Masters in Education and Administration from Keene State College and became the assistant superintendent in Windsor, VT. Mr. Moran was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, the Keene Rotary Club where he had perfect attendance for many, many years, the Jerusalem Lodge F & AM, Cheshire Shrine Club and Bektash Temple AAONMS, and the Keene State Alumni Association.
Mr. Moran was a life-long learner and teacher. In his later years, he loved company more than anything, and would discuss politics, education or whatever was near and dear to his companion, enjoy a game of cribbage or checkers, and even took up bingo and other games of chance. His winnings, mostly candy bars, were always saved for his beloved wife, Marjorie, of course.
In his younger years, he was always there willing to help, no matter what was needed, you could always count on Ernie. He volunteered to drive people to and from meetings and appointments, worked on the Fourth of July activities at Alumni Field, attended church regularly, visited many friends in the hospital, and assisted with funerals for members of the organizations to which he belonged.
He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife Annetta Marjorie (MacLeod) Moran; two children, Paul Moran, and his wife Dottie, of Sarasota, FL; Gail Miller of Greenfield, MA; four grandchildren, Matthew Moran and his wife Heather, of Warner, NH; Christopher Miller, Mary Miller, and Alexander Miller and his wife Cori all of Greenfield, MA; three great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
