She was born in Barre, VT, on March 10, 1926, the daughter of Stanley E. Brooks Sr. and Vera Mace (Newton) Brooks. She was a 1944 graduate of Altona Central High School in Altona, NY. She graduated in 1948 from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. She later went on to receive her Masters from Plattsburgh State College in Plattsburgh, NY.
Mrs. Dash was a school teacher for her entire career. She taught in New York, California and then lastly in VT, where she was instrumental in setting up the Special Education programs in the Northern areas of the state before her retirement in the mid 1980’s.
In July of 1988 she married Hilton Douglas Dash.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for Key Women Educators, and belonged to the Vermont Retired Teachers Association. She was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Keene, where she served for many years and taught Sunday school and Junior Church until her illness this year. She also, up until recent years, taught boys and girls Summer Camp in Mooers, NY. She was a part of a weekly song and Bible study at Langdon Place of Keene, and she belonged to a Christian Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, canning and watching the birds in her gardens. She liked going antiquing, by which she was able to furnish and restore two of her homes back to their former glories. She was known as a lover of children, dogs and especially enjoyed family functions. She and her sister-in-law Edith shared a home and spent many happy times doing what they both loved with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister: Laura Brooks Mitchell and her husband Roy N. of Plattsburgh, NY; a brother: Stephen Brooks of Tok, Alaska; her sisters-in-law: Edith Brooks Russell of Surry, NH and Patricia Brooks of Bel Air, Maryland; as well as 48 Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces and Nephews and Great Grand Nieces and Nephews. She was pre deceased by her Husband of almost 3 years: Hilton D. Dash, and two brothers: Stanley Ernest Brooks, Jr. and Howard Newton Brooks.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Oct.4, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 Maple Ave, Keene, NH. Calling Hours will be held on Friday Oct. 3, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00, at the Fletcher Funeral Home. Burial will be private, at the family lot in the Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans, VT.
