Her parents, Walter W. and Mary E. (Aldrich) Bowen welcomed their daughter into the world on February 13, 1944, in West Halifax, VT. She grew up in Keene and was a graduate of Keene High School.
Anita received a bachelor's degree in Holistic Health from the American Holistic Institute in Ohio. Always wanting to learn, to be able to help others, she continued her studies in holistic science and wellness at Keene State College.
She was very proud of her work in hypnosis and biofeedback. Over the years she created many lasting friendships with many people that she was able to help with their holistic wellness.
Anita also worked for several years as a manager with Monadnock Developmental Services in Keene where she continued to support her community.
She loved the ocean, especially trips to Maine with her grandchildren and friends. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy. She loved to make everyone laugh with her practical jokes.
She will be greatly missed by many, especially her children, Rickey A. Lake of Vergennes, VT, Darlene M. Wilson and her husband, Dirk, of Keene, NH, Samuel L. Lake and his wife, Cynthia, of Stoddard, NH, Lori L. Lake and her partner, Durrell, of Jaffrey, NH; her grandchildren, Christopher Lake and his wife, Amanda, Amanda Cheever and her husband, Emeit, Tiffany Hardy, Katie Hardy, Meagan Burkhardt, Kailah Lake, Lucas Burkhardt and his wife, Madeline, Samantha Lake; her great-grandchildren, Henry, Kinley, Kallen, Nicholas, Eliot, Lilah, Charlotte, and Cynthia; a brother, Russell Bowen of Gilsum, NH; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her husband of 18 years, Edward Allen Lake, Sr. died on January 7, 2007. A son, Mark W. Lake, a brother, Leslie Bowen, and five sisters, Barbara Arlen, Margery Fowle, Alice Mason, Alta MacQueston and Freda Goodell, predeceased her.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11:30am. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Burial in the Spofford Village Cemetery will be held privately by the family.
