Stephanie passed away at her home in Katy, TX on October 22, 2024, after a long and well fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). To the end, she kept her sense of humor and her fighting spirit. She is survived by her husband (Terry), her daughter (Vanessa), her stepchildren (Dan and Tammy), her granddaughter (Lily) and her brothers (Clark and Brian). She was preceded in death by her parents (Dave and Dolores) and her sister (Nancy).
Stephanie was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she graduated cum laude from Stevens High School in 1970. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree (with a double major in History and Spanish) from South Dakota State University in 1974. Stephanie spent much of her career as a management consultant working mainly within the oil and gas industry. With guts and gusto, she traveled the world to lead and inspire teams across the globe.
Both before and after her retirement in 2016, she and Terry spent time exploring the world together. They took trips to Europe with friends and family, cruises of the Caribbean and Alaska and many wonderful road trips all over the US. Stephanie loved seeing new places and exploring different cultures.
Stephanie always had a deep love for knowledge and expanding her world. She would often spend her afternoons curled up with a favorite book (and her cat, Winter), playing her baby grand piano and never missing an episode of Jeopardy!. While Stephanie had always enjoyed sewing, quilting became her passion. She spent hours creating gorgeous quilts for loved ones, as well as quilts to donate to critically ill children at Houston Children’s Hospital.
There will be a celebration of life to honor Stephanie on January 18, 2025, with inurnment in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota next spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center at https://mdanderson.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.personalCampaign&participantID=6338
