We share the grief of Tio Ramon's children and grandchildren, and their profound sense of loss during these difficult times. At the same time, we join them in celebrating his life of 123 years. 

We were members of a business association representing our respective companies, and it was always with much pleasure and pride that I would introduce him to my friends and colleagues. And without fail, they swooned at his being so handsome. I always wished they'd see his inner self, as I was sure they would admire him all the more. Tio Ramon was a man of unquestioned honesty, decency, and integrity. He will be sorely missed.

The Macrohon family of Cebu was so fortunate to have visited and bonded with Tio Ramon in Texas after not having seen each other for some 30 years or so! This was in 2019 and not so many knew that with that trip I was then requested, nay, "ordered" to relay a message for Tio Ramon from a retired but ailing military officer. This officer has long served as University of San Carlos-Cebu former ROTC Commandant and... Tio Ramon’s classmate in the Advance ROTC Reserved Officers Training Course at then Southern Colleges, now University of Southern Philippines-Cebu.
Both Tio Ramon and  Gandionco were then bachelors when they took the course and came out with the rank of 2nd lieutenants upon graduation. 
I felt a sense of fulfillment seeing Tio Ramon's eyes glitter with much joy when I finally relayed Gandionco's greetings!
Flying back to Cebu after our USA tours for 6 weeks, our favorite restaurant waiters broke the sad news that Col Gandionco had passed away while we were still with Tio Ramon in Texas...

Dad: Your loving and caring ways, your patience, your understanding, and your amazing wisdom will forever live in our hearts.
For all the years that I have known you, including the times I had the opportunity to care for you, you have shown nothing but fatherly love, kindness and gratefulness. Edwin also adores you, your mutual admiration for each other makes you true “best friends”.
We love you Dad with all our hearts and we will surely miss you.

You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once…
You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits home,
they are gone.
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realize, they are gone,
Again.

What an honor to have met Mr. Gumila and his family.  We were so touched when we learned of his  passing but rejoiced that he is free from his ailments.  We know that to be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Tio Ramon was a man of few words. We’ve always had the impression that he was serious, strict and dignified, true to his being a military man. Seeing these photos show that despite not being so expressive, he was such a loving family man. He lived a long, fulfilling life knowing he was much loved ‘til the end. 

To Geegee, Mai, Ron, Chiqui and the rest of the family, we share with you the grief of losing Tio even as we are also one with you in thanking the Almighty for Tio’s 103 years of life. Tio Ramon and Tita Chit were blessed to have such loving, caring children! 

We love you Tio and you will always be fondly remembered, in our thoughts and prayers…

We will forever be grateful to our wedding ninong, Tio Ramon. He was a big help when we built our first family home in Ayala Alabang Village way back in 1979. Tio Ramon introduced us to the architect who designed and built the house within our budget. He even helped us source some of the construction materials like cement, through his contacts. The house brought good luck to the family since I got two promotions within a year at Ayala Corp. and a foreign assignment to HK in 1981 while staying in our first home. 

Rest in peace, Ninong. You will always be in our prayers.
