Patricia Joan Pollak Quell passed away on April 15, 2015 at age 86 at her home in Katy TX. She was born on February 1, 1929 in upper Manhattan, New York City to Fred Pollak (deceased in 1945) and Florence Mae Clark Pollak (deceased in 1959). Her only sibling Edmund (Ed) Pollak died in 2014.
Pat attended public schools in New York City and studied fashion merchandising. She met Henry (Hank) Quell at age 16, and they were married in 1948. Hank passed away in 2009 after more than 60 years of marriage. Hank's work as an advertising art director led to a relocation to Houston in 1971. In 1986 Pat and Hank moved to Florida, where they spent many happy years until Hank's death. They enjoyed traveling to many parts of the United States, as well as Mexico and London.
Patricia is survived by her 3 children Stephen Quell (wife Ledie), Susan Bowman (husband Ray), and Fred Quell, as well as 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, most of whom live in the Houston area. She is also survived by 4 nephews and 1 niece in Iowa and Oregon. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved cat "Pearl".
Pat worked at several schools in Texas and Florida as a teacher's aide, eventually working with special needs children. She also worked part-time in real estate. She was an avid bridge player and voracious reader. She enjoyed traveling, swimming, and the beach and participated in a "Silver Sneakers" fitness program in her later years. She remained active as long as her health permitted. Always patient and kind, she will leave an empty place in our hearts that will be impossible to replace.
We wish to thank her special caregivers - Dorothy Chevis, Gladys Woodson, Margaret King, Carol King, and all the people at Hospice with Grace who cared for her. Special thanks also go out to her wonderful neighbors who expressed so much concern and support.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11 AM at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston TX 77079. A reception will follow at the church.
