Greg was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 11, 1943, to Jerome and Eleanor Blavat. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1962. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Mary Ann. They would have two children, Todd born in 1966 and Jennifer born in 1968.
While becoming a new father, Greg worked his way through college, graduating from Marquette University in 1970. In 1972, his career would transfer him to Houston, Texas. In moving to Texas, he became a Houston Oilers fan, then a Houston Texans fan, but always remaining a Green Bay Packers fan at heart, often traveling to games with his brothers, nephews, son, son-in-law and grandson.
In 1978, he opened his own manufacturer’s rep firm, Greg Blavat Sales, which he ran until the mid 1990’s. Greg was the ultimate salesman, hardworking and a genuine and gracious person to all he met. He was a mentor, not only to his own children and grandchildren, but to many young people to whom he taught the value of a strong work ethic and the value of hard work.
Greg was a wonderful “Papa” to his four grandchildren. He and Mary Ann never missed an event from basketball games and drama performances to graduations. He was very excited to become a great grandfather to Addie last year.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Eleanor, his wife Mary Ann, sister Barbara and brother Roger. He is survived by his son Todd and wife Sheila, daughter Jennifer and husband Donnie, grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, TJ and Oscar and great granddaughter Addie. Brother Phil and wife Lynn and brother Paul and wife Beth, sister-in-law Leslie and numerous nieces and nephews.
