Dennis grew up in the swamps of Louisiana and was one of the best at throwing a cast net and relishing the opportunity to be up before dawn with crab lines in the water. He played trumpet in the Notre Dame High School Band, as well as having the honor to play in Mardi Gras parades and the Knights of Columbus Band and Orchestra. Dennis served the United States in the Army, joining the service on July 13th, 1953, where he quickly climbed the ranks to Sergeant First Class. His discipline and work ethic earned him numerous commendations, including a National Defense Service Medal. After the military, Dennis spent most of his career in construction, with one of his proud accomplishments being owner and commercial contractor for Superior Construction Company. On any given day, he entertained side jobs galore to earn added income to support a loving and stable home for his wife and children. Nonetheless, the real value for him was in the making of the journey.
With all of the successes that Dennis achieved during his lifetime, he would easily boast that his best moments were with his soul mate and lifelong love, Ruth. They fell in love instantly when they met in Germany, and together, they welcomed life’s adventures for over 65 years of knowing each other. This hard-working duo extended their love and support to countless people through the years, and they remained humble with God at the center of their decisions and acts of faith.
Ruth passed away on October 11, 2018, and while Dennis carried on making the most of his time with family and loved ones, he would tell anyone that a huge piece of him was incomplete without Ruth by his side. He spent every moment thinking of her and reminiscing about their time together. They knew and loved each other for over 65 years, nurturing their bond through the many difficult days, as well as the many moments of celebration. Theirs was a true love story…and it has now come full circle to end their chapter on Earth.
Dennis and Ruth…you are together again, at last. We will keep you forever in our hearts.
