"Loving Mother, Teacher and Student"
Barbara Baylor went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 15, 2023. She had tremendous faith in and devotion to Jesus. Barbara loved her family. Sharing experiences with each member was deeply important to her and learning about what was happening in their lives was at the forefront of every conversation. Spending special times together on birthdays, graduations, and holidays meant the world to her - she never turned down an invitation to gather and celebrate. Her trademark attribute was listening in a caring and thoughtful way. Barbara nurtured through conversation, always turning negatives into positives, while never waiving from her optimistic outlook.
Barbara taught multiple subjects for over 35 years at HISD, AISD, SBISD and Lonestar Community College. Her love for education carried into her retirement years as she was passionate about spreading the word of Christ. Post retirement, Barbara worked within her Church, Tallowood Baptist, teaching “English for Speakers of Other Languages” (ESOL). She enjoyed her international travels with the church choir as well as her time instructing ESOL in multiple villages in China. Through the years, Barbara touched and changed thousands of lives through educating others on the word of Christ, while enthusiastically volunteering for programs she believed in. She consistently and genuinely supported those she loved. Barbara was a devoted student of the Lord. Her thirst for knowledge was well known as she studied the bible daily, and then wrote devotionals based on the insights she learned. As an educator, she believed one never stopped learning. Her own appetite for enlightenment never slowed, right up to the day she left our physical world. Barbara was also a student of life, instilling in everyone she encountered that you can always learn about the culture, faith, and family of others. Those she touched have been positively changed forever. Barbara’s pastor commented on how she regularly stood at the gates of her Church, always smiling and graciously welcoming people to services. She had a knack for empathetically listening to their stories of the day.
Barbara made peace with the Lord before her passing - and wanted us to know. Although difficult to accept her sudden passing, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in Heaven with all those she loved. Just as she welcomed guests to Tallowood, Christ has now received her through the gates of Heaven.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Red Baylor; and sister-in-law, Sharon Baylor. She is survived by her brother, Jim Baylor, and wife, Sandra; sons, David Loesch and wife, Laura; and Darrin Loesch, and wife, Allison; nieces and nephews: Jennifer Baylor, Brandon Baylor and wife, DeLon, and Jamie Baylor; grandchildren: Ashley Loesch, Joshua Loesch, and Travis Loesch.
